Illinois sanctuary state policies under fire from DHS Secretary
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Springfield last week where she blasted Illinois’ sanctuary state policy protecting undocumented immigrants. During her visit, Secretary Noem highlighted how sanctuary policies in Illinois have unleashed violence on American citizens — including rape, sexual assault, murder, and more — while shielding the illegal aliens responsible from facing consequences.
She also rebuked Governor Pritzker for using $1.6 billion in taxpayer money to expand healthcare to those who are here illegally.
Get Ready for Rising Summer Energy Bills

Republican members of the House’s Energy & Environment Committee this week sent the Chair and Vice Chair a letter explaining the urgent need for hearings into the recent results of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) capacity auction which returned a shocking $666.50 per Megawatt-day price across all zones in the summer. That same price just one year ago was $30.
House Republicans have bills to roll back CEJA provisions and keep Illinoisans working:
HB 4050 – Restores provisions in the Act regarding greenhouse gases to their form before Public Act 102-662. Repeals a provision defining “clean energy.”
HB 1544 – In a provision regarding greenhouse gases, extends deadlines by 5 years for reduced or zero carbon dioxide equivalent and copollutant emissions by certain electric generating units and large greenhouse gas-emitting units.
HB 1545 – In a provision regarding greenhouse gases, extends deadlines by 10 years for reduced or zero carbon dioxide equivalent and copollutant emissions by certain electric generating units and large greenhouse gas-emitting units.
HB 1546 – In a provision regarding greenhouse gases, extends deadlines by 5 years for reduced or zero carbon dioxide equivalent and copollutant emissions by certain electric generating units and large greenhouse gas-emitting units that use coal as a fuel.
HB 1547 – Extends deadlines for reduced or zero carbon dioxide emissions by 10 years for certain EGUs and large greenhouse gas-emitting units.
School mascot ban bill stalls in the Senate
Proposed legislation that would prohibit the use of Native American names or images as school mascots faces a setback in the Illinois Senate. This is good news for several Illinois districts including the Pikeland School District Saukees, and Payson-Seymour Community Schools Indians.
This legislation would not only result in a loss of school and community identity, choosing a new mascot would force schools to change their gyms, their uniforms, their fields. This would have a multi-million-dollar impact on every school district affected, and of course there’s no state funding allocated to help.

House Democrats again stonewall ethics reform

The Democratic supermajority has implemented a foolproof plan to prevent action on legislative ethics and election reform in Springfield:
- Set up a House Committee on Ethics & Elections with jurisdiction over all bills dealing with ethics reform and elections in Illinois
- Assign bills dealing with Illinois legislative ethics reform and Illinois election law to the Ethics & Elections Committee
- The House Ethics & Elections Committee never meets
This spring marked the first legislative session after the conviction of Michel J. Madigan, former Illinois House Speaker, on multiple federal corruption charges. The Madigan conviction, along with numerous other government corruption charges and convictions, have led to serious calls for ethics reform. However, Democratic Party leaders have made sure these calls for reform go unheard.
Illinois’ own Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost becomes Pope Leo XIV

As the world watched an American from Illinois, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was elected as the new Pope, the first from the United States.
He chose the name Leo XIV.
Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago in September 1955. He was raised in the south suburbs, attending St. Mary of the Assumption parish in Dolton. He was ordained in 1982 and earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical College of St. Thomas Aquinas.
The new Pope is considered by some to represent “a dignified middle of the road.”
Congratulations Pope Leo XIV! Your home state wishes you much success!
